Bloomberg AIM
Senior practitioner with direct Bloomberg Asset and Investment Manager implementation experience. Not vendor professional services — an independent specialist who has delivered AIM across multiple institutional mandates.
The challenge
Bloomberg AIM is a deep platform. The configuration surface is enormous: order management, compliance rules, FIX connectivity, position accounting, IBOR/ABOR reconciliation, custodian feeds, allocation workflows, and settlement instructions all require careful calibration for each firm's specific mandate. Getting any one of these wrong does not produce a clean error — it produces a system that appears to work until it doesn't, usually at the worst possible time.
Asset managers evaluating Bloomberg AIM consultants typically encounter two options: Bloomberg's own professional services team (expensive, slow, one size fits all, and gone the moment the go-live invoice is paid) or generalist technology consultants who learned AIM on your implementation. Neither is the right answer for a firm that needs the implementation done correctly the first time.
The specific challenges that create the most implementation risk on AIM engagements are not obscure — they are the same issues across every buy-side firm: compliance rule logic that doesn't match the investment mandate as actually traded, FIX session configuration that breaks under real market conditions, custodian feed reconciliation that produces false breaks, and allocation workflows that work for the standard case and fall apart for block trades and multi-account strategies.
AIM expertise
Mapping investment policy statement constraints to AIM compliance rules requires translating legal language into platform logic. We have done this across equity, fixed income, and multi-asset mandates — and we know which rules produce false positives if misconfigured and which ones produce silent misses.
AIM's order routing infrastructure connects to execution venues via FIX. Configuring session parameters, message types, and order routing logic correctly requires understanding both the FIX protocol and the specific requirements of each venue. We have managed FIX integrations with prime brokers, agency brokers, and electronic venues.
Position and cash feeds from custodians and prime brokers are the data foundation that everything else depends on. Incorrect feed configuration produces reconciliation breaks that compound — and the root cause is almost never obvious. We have mapped, implemented, and debugged custodian feeds for major institutional custodians.
Block trade allocation, partial fill handling, and end-of-day position reconciliation are the operational core of AIM. We configure allocation algorithms, test edge cases systematically, and document the behavior so your operations team is not reverse-engineering the system six months after go-live.
Why independent matters
Bloomberg's professional services team has one objective: get the implementation to go-live so the license revenue is recognized. Post-go-live issues become support tickets. The consultant who did the implementation is gone.
An independent Bloomberg AIM consultant's incentive structure is different. Our reputation is built on implementations that work — not just implementations that technically completed. When a configuration decision will cause problems six months after go-live, an independent consultant says so. A vendor PS team moves on to the next engagement.
PBW engagements include explicit post-go-live support in the statement of work. Issues that surface in the first 60 days after production cutover are not new support tickets — they are part of the engagement. That changes the incentive to get it right the first time.
