Decision Kit v2.0 — $997

Stop evaluating AIM vs CRD
with the wrong framework.

Standard evaluation criteria don't account for the structural differences between Bloomberg AIM and Charles River IMS. The result: firms pick the platform that presented better, not the one that fits their actual complexity profile. This kit changes the criteria.

Who this is for

Built for ops and tech leads at $500M–$10B AUM firms evaluating an OMS in the next 6–18 months.

Head of Operations

You need a framework your board will accept — scoring that maps to your firm's actual workflow complexity, not the vendor's marketing categories.

CTO / Head of Technology

You need to evaluate FIX session architecture, API surface, custodian connectivity, and IBOR integration depth — with a rubric that weights technical capability against implementation risk.

Compliance Technology Lead

Compliance engine architecture is the most under-covered differentiator between AIM and CRD. This kit covers rule structures, IBOR treatment, and pre/post-trade flow in both platforms.

COO preparing for a board conversation

You need to justify a $2–$5M system selection with documented rationale. The weighted scoring worksheet and implementation risk synthesis produce board-ready output.

What's inside

Two deliverables. One decision framework.

Table of Contents
  1. Executive Summary
The five structural differences that drive real platform outcomes — not the demo-friendly ones
  2. Vendor Differentiation Matrix
12-dimension comparison: order lifecycle, data model, compliance engine, FIX, IBOR, derivatives, reporting, implementation path
  3. Implementation Risk Synthesis
Where each platform breaks down by firm size, asset class, and team structure — real failure patterns, not vendor claims
  4. Buyer Personas
Three firm profiles: $500M–$1B long-only, $1B–$3B multi-strategy, $3B–$10B algo/hedge. Which platform wins each profile and why

How to map your firm's target state to the two platforms — and where the gaps are
  8. Mobilization Plan
90-day pre-implementation checklist for whichever platform wins your scoring model
  9. Executive Steering Committee Pack
Slide-ready rationale for board / investment committee — built from your scoring outputs
  10. Appendices
Glossary, platform comparison reference table, RFP baseline questions, vendor contact protocol

Worksheets
  1. Weighted Scoring Model
12 dimensions, adjustable weights, AIM vs CRD score columns — produces a ranked output for your firm's specific priority profile
  2. Sensitivity Analysis
What happens to your recommendation if you weight implementation risk 2x vs compliance depth? See the swing in real time
  3. TCO Side-by-Side
3-year total cost of ownership: licensing, implementation, staffing, integration, ongoing — AIM vs CRD with your inputs
  4. Risk Gap Tracker
Map your top 5 implementation risks against each platform's known failure modes — identify which risks each platform amplifies
Choose the lane

The kit is the self-serve lane. The sprint is the facilitated decision lane.

Use the kit when your team can run the evaluation internally and you need a defensible framework. Bring PBW into the sprint when the recommendation has to survive steering committee review, budget challenge, or contract timing pressure.

$997 — Self-serve

Decision Kit v2.0

  • Best when the internal team can own the evaluation.
  • Gives you the scoring model, TCO workbook, personas, and mobilization logic.
  • Ideal before or between vendor conversations.

$15K-$30K — PBW-led

TCO & Vendor Selection Sprint

  • Best when the decision must hold up in executive, board, or procurement review.
  • Turns the framework into a PBW-led scoring matrix, cost model, and recommendation memo.
  • Ideal when vendor selection is active and the risk of getting it wrong is already material.

Practitioner-authored

This framework came from production implementation work, not vendor slideware.

Philip Williams is a senior OMS implementation consultant with hands-on delivery experience across Bloomberg AIM and Charles River IMS — trade capture, compliance configuration, T+1 settlement, IBOR integration, custodian connectivity. UCLA Anderson MBA. The framework is informed by anonymized client delivery patterns and documented project outcomes.

The Decision Kit v2.0 is derived from the evaluation frameworks Philip uses with clients who engage at the $25K–$50K advisory level. The scoring rubric and risk synthesis are production tools, not templates built for a product.

PBW Professional Services L.L.C. is vendor-neutral — no vendor commissions, no referral fees. The framework has no incentive to point you toward either platform.

Questions

FAQ

What happened to the earlier Decision Kit?

The v2.0 kit is now the canonical version. It folds the earlier scoring rubric and TCO model into a fully updated 24-page framework with buyer personas, implementation-risk synthesis by AUM band, evidence pack, executive steering committee materials, and a companion workbook with sensitivity analysis.

Is this relevant if we've already selected a platform?

Yes — the risk synthesis, buyer personas, and mobilization plan are equally useful for implementation scoping after selection. The TCO model helps pressure-test contract terms. The steering committee pack is useful for internal communication regardless of where you are in the process.

We're a $200M firm — is this the right level?

The framework covers $500M–$10B AUM explicitly. Below that threshold, the free OMS Readiness Assessment is a better starting point. If you're evaluating AIM or CRD, the kit still applies — the personas and risk synthesis are dimension-agnostic.

What if we need help beyond the framework?

If the platform decision has active executive scrutiny, use the OMS TCO & Vendor Selection Sprint. If the platform is already selected and the question shifts to implementation readiness, the OMS Readiness Diagnostic is the better follow-on.

Can I share this with my team?

Yes. Single-firm license. Share internally as needed. Not for redistribution.

What format is the workbook?

Excel (.xlsx). Tested in Excel 2016+ and Google Sheets. Formulas are unlocked — extend the model for your firm's specific cost structure and weighting priorities.

The evaluation is happening whether you have the right framework or not.

The firms that get this right have a documented process. The ones that regret it relied on vendor demos.
