Is Your Firm Ready for an OMS Implementation?

This checklist comes from real buy-side implementations, not vendor slide decks. Use it before you sign a statement of work — to surface the gaps that will cost you in change orders after you do.

5 readiness domains with 50+ practitioner checklist items
Section-level self-rating: Ready / Mostly Ready / Not Ready
Summary score sheet for your vendor kickoff
Practitioner notes from actual Bloomberg AIM and CRD implementations

What is in the checklist

Most OMS implementations hit change orders because gaps were not surfaced before the SOW was signed. This checklist walks through every readiness domain — with specific items per area — so you know your position before the vendor kickoff.

Workflow Readiness — Sample

  • Order entry → allocation → confirmation → settlement workflow documented end-to-end
  • Cross-asset workflow coverage confirmed: equities, fixed income, derivatives
  • Exception types inventoried with ownership matrix and resolution SLAs
  • Manual workaround inventory complete — decision made per workaround: automate, keep, defer

Data Readiness — Sample

  • Security master source confirmed with asset class and cross-reference field coverage
  • SSI data complete and current for all active counterparties
  • Historical migration scope defined: years, asset classes, tax lot history

Compliance Readiness

  • Pre-trade rule inventory complete with full rule specification per rule
  • Concentration limit aggregation method specified and confirmed with compliance officer
  • Breach escalation and evidence workflow documented per severity level
  • Post-trade monitoring framework mapped against pre-trade rule set

Integration Readiness

  • FIX connectivity: all venues listed, FIX version confirmed, certification timeline confirmed
  • Custodian position feeds confirmed: format, frequency, cutoff times
  • Accounting system interface spec confirmed: trade booking feed, reconciliation workflow

Organizational Readiness

  • Executive sponsor identified with authority and availability confirmed
  • UAT entry and exit criteria defined — configuration freeze before UAT start
  • Parallel run period confirmed: minimum 4 weeks with defined go/no-go criteria
